Eighth Annual Scales of Justice Scholarship

Eligibility:
The competition is open to high school seniors and senior level home school students who are residents of Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Cobb, and Clayton counties. 

Competition Guidelines:
Participating students are asked to write an original and creative essay of 1,000 words or less in response to the following question: "If you were President, how would you balance the need for the security and safety of your citizens with the goal of living in a world where freedom and tolerance are important aspects of our lives?"

Requirements:
  • Entries for the 2016 contest will be accepted starting February 15, 2017. The submission deadline is March 15, 2017.
  • Essays cannot be more than 1000 words.
  • Submissions must be the original work of the student.
Essay Submission:
All essays should be submitted online via our website at www.frg-law.com/essay-contest/

Awards: 
A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the top finalist, with $500 scholarships given to the second and third place recipients. Winners will be announced on April 3, 2017.

Before you can submit an application, you must have completed the following: (1) downloading the C'reer mobile app, (2) received a career recommendation through the app, and (3) responded to one of the essays below:

Based on the career recommendations you received from the C'reer mobile app, please answer one following questions in 500 words (minimum):

How do you see technology transforming this field in the next 10 years, and will it have a positive or negative impact on society?

If you could use technology to solve one challenge this field faces, what would it be, how would you apply it, and why?

How do you see technology affecting education of this field in the future? Do you think that it will help hurt student's academic experiences, and why? 

Fund purpose: 
The C'reer Scholarship Fund awards scholarships towards the purchase of educational technology to college-bound high school seniors based on demonstrated academic achievement and essay submission.*
Criteria:
The students eligible for assistance must be graduating high school seniors who reside in Georgia and intend to continue their education at an accredited four year college or university. Consideration will be given to academic achievement, SAT Scores and the student's submitted essay. Students should submit their application on the form provided by UrbanSTEM.
Guidelines:
Scholarships will be awarded in August. Students must continue to attend classes and maintain no lower than a 3.0 grade-point average (or equivalent).
Amount:
Each scholarship awarded will be a maximum of $1,000.
Deadline:
The deadline for application submission is at 11:59 p.m. EST on April 1, 2017, after which, application will no longer be accepted.
Renewal process:
This scholarsip is not renewable. Only high school seniors intending to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university are eligible to apply. Previous scholarship recipients cannot re-apply.

Duluth High School PTSA 2016-2017 Scholarship Information


Deadline: Thursday, March 30, 2017

The Duluth High School PTSA is proud to offer two $1,000 scholarships for the 2016-17 school year. One male student and one female student will be the proud recipients of theses scholarships. Every candidate must have successfully met or exceeded the State of Georgia graduation requirements and plan to attend an accredited two or four year college or university.
The objective of this scholarship is to aid students who have successfully completed high school and are looking to further their education at a college or university. These individuals will be ready to prepare themselves for their careers which they have chosen, with the goal of maintaining their support and commitment to the advancement of their education. This is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship.


Qualifications and Eligibility 

A student is eligible to apply for the Duluth High School PTSA Scholarship as long as he/she:
  • is a 2017 graduating student of Duluth High School \
  • is a current member of Duluth High School PTSA: if not a member, you can purchase a membership at the front office - $10 (forms on the PTSA tab of the Duluth High School website)
  • has at least one parent who is a current Duluth High School PTSA member: if not a member, they can purchase a membership at the front office - $10 minimum (forms on the PTSA tab of the Duluth High School website)
  • has a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • is attending a 2-year or 4-year accredited college or university 
  • has a satisfactory scholastic record
  • does not have any disciplinary infractions on file this year
  • applications will be scored based upon information in the two short essays (80 points) and Grade Point Average (20 points)
  • application must be turned into the Duluth High School Main Office - PTSA Mail Box by Thursday, March 30, 2017

Lawrenceville-Duluth Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Foundation, Inc. Scholarship

Mission Statement: Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Inc. continues the tradition of assisting African American Male students in the area of education and building strong values and leadership in the community. The fraternity will award scholarships of $1,000 each to local high school seniors in Gwinnett County Public Schools who are pursuing a post-secondary education.

  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale
  • Must submit a copy of high school transcript
  • Must submit 2 letters of recommendation from a counselor, teacher, pastor, employer, or community leader (non-relative). The letter shouldn't exceed one page in length.
  • Must submit a one page (2 pages maximum) double spaced essay that includes extracurricular activities and work activities and answers the following: 1) Please state where you plan to attend college and describe what degree you intend to study. Explain why you chose this program. 2) Describe your professional/career goals and explain how the program/degree you are studying will help you achieve these goals. 3) Explain how this scholarship would help supplement your tuition and/or books while in school.

Area 2 Gwinnett County Council of PTAs 2016-2017 Scholarship


Amount: $750
Deadline: March 11, 2017


Solely funded through local council membership and council contributions. Area 2 is proud to present eight $750 scholarships to deserving high school students who have successfully met or exceeded the State of Georgia graduation requirements, and plan to attend an accredited two or four year college or university. Only students in Parent Teacher and Student Associations (PTSA) in the Area 2 Council are eligible to apply. The eight Area 2 Cluster high schools are: Collins Hill, Duluth, GSMST, Mountain View, Norcross, North Gwinnett, Lanier, and Peachtree Ridge.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students who have successfully completed high school who are interested in furthering their education in a college or university to prepare themselves for careers of their choice with the goal of having these individuals maintain their support and commitment to the advancement of education. This is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship.


Eligibility

A student is eligible to apply for the Gwinnett Area 2 PTA scholarship if he/she:
  • is a graduating senior and PTSA member of an Area II high school with a PTA/PTSA. The PTA must be in good standing (i.e.: paid dues, approved by laws on file)
  • is interested in attending an accredited four-year or two-year college or university
  • has a satisfactory scholastic record acknowledged by an administrator, counselor, or teacher
