We seek students who have exhibited a capacity for service and leadership, as well as academic excellence, and who will embrace the challenges of a rigorous academic curriculum. We are especially interest in students who exhibit qualities that embody the essence of the Danforth’s-maturity, strong moral character, selflessness, and commitment to the community.
                One nominated, the students will be sent application materials. After the application deadline the Selection committee, composed of University faculty and friends, will begin the difficult task of choosing from gifted applicants.

The Danforth Scholars Program
Named in honor of William H. and Elizabeth Gray Danforth, the former Chancellor, a First Lady of Washington University from 1971 to 1995. We seek candidates for the Danforth Scholars program who have exhibited a capacity for service and leadership, as well as academic excellence, and who will embrace the challenges of a rigorous academic curriculum. We are interested in students who exhibit qualities that embody the essence of the Danforth: maturity, strong moral character, selflessness, and commitment to the community. 
*Scholars may receive full or partial tuition scholarships renewed each year for the duration of the degree program. Undergraduates must be nominated to receive consideration. This is a merit based program, but will be considered as part of the award process.

To be conserved for this award, a student must be nominated by an individual who has substantive knowledge of the student’s accomplishments and goals. Nominations should include the enclosed form and a letter of nomination.
When a student has been nominated, the committee will notify the student and provide the application.

After the committee receives your nomination(s), we invite the student(s) to apply to the Danforth Scholars Program. Up to 40 applicants will be selected as finalists and invited to campus March 27-30, 2014, for a required interview weekend. Multiple full- and partial-tuition scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate students.
To be considered for a scholarship, the student must return the application, short answers, essay, and transcript to the committee by January 15, 2014. The student must also submit the application for undergraduate admission to the Class of 2018, including essay, recommendations, and Sat or ACT scores by January 15, 2014. Students whose primary language is not English must submit TOEFL/IELTs scores by the same date.
