WOC provides financial assistance to an outstanding male or female African- American students residing in the united states who plan to attend an accredited four- year college or university of their choice within the US. In addition to excelling in the classroom, these individuals are leaders in the community who exemplify the values of volunteerism and service.
WOC recognizes the importance of education in the lives of children and the commitment to serve those less fortunate. we are delighted to provide this year's scholarship in the amount of $2,500.00 to the high school senior who reflects these same high standards and has at least a 2.5 GPA. As we give to promote the individual's educational opportunities, we hope that he/she will see fit to lead his/her life in a way that will eventually give something positive back to the community.
Criteria:
- words of comfort application form
- resume (should demonstrate community service/ activities and any employment/ internship experiences, school activity, school honors and awards, computer skills)
- WOC scholarship certification form
- Two SEALED letters of recomendations together with two applicant ability and skills rating forms (one- school teacher or counselor/ one- commutnity leader unrelated to the applicant)
- high school transcript
- verification of US citizenship (if selected, copy of birth certificate is required or additional verifiying document)
- essay: in a minimum of 500 words, please address ONE of the following:
- how will your planned major contribute to society as a whole?
- what community service related activities do you participate in that most build and reflect your character?
- describe how you have demonstrated leadership ablilities bothin and out of school
