Clayton State University Presidential Scholars Program

     Clayton State University offers a comprehensive scholarship opportunity for outstanding students, the Presidential Scholarship. In addition to HOPE Scholarship and any other financial aid, Presidential Scholars receive:

  • An annual university grant of $3000 (an approximate value of $12,000)
  • University housing for 4 years
  • A bookstore award of $250

What are the benefits of being a Presidential Scholar?

As a Presidential Scholar you will:

  • Actively participate in the University's Honors Program
  • Perform at least 30 hours of community service per academic year
  • Live in university housing 
  • Enjoy early registration: Honors students enroll at the earliest registration date each semester
  • Have study abroad opportunities designed for Honors students  
  • Have opportunities to work closely with faculty on research projects.
  • likely travel to state and regional Honors conferences 
  • Develop Honors coursework leadership skills 
  • Receive Honors seal on diploma
  • Receive Honors recognition at commencement 
What does it take to be a Presidential scholar?

To be considered for the competitive Presidential Scholarship award, prospective students must:

  • Apply for admission to Clayton State University as a first-time traditional freshman student 
  • Submit an additional application for the Presidential Scholarship
  • Write and submit an essay with your Presidential Scholarship Application
  • Provide a record of involvement in leadership roles, volunteer opportunities, and/or extracurricular/community oriented activities
  • Meet the Honors Program eligibility qualifications (see below) 
  • Attend mandatory formal interviews ( if selected as finalist)
Honors Program eligibility qualifications include:
  • High school grade point average of 3.5 or above (recalculated based upon College Preparatory Curriculum courses)
  • A minimum combined sore of 1100 on SAT (math and verbal sections) or have a composite score of 24 on the ACT
