The Beauty P. Baldwin Scholarship

Upsilon Alpha Omega, the Gwinnett Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,Inc., is offering scholarships to female African-American high school seniors. The scholarship is named after Beauty P. Baldwin, who is one of Upsilon Alpha Omega's founding members and served as superintendent of Buford County Schools for nearly ten years.

In order to be eligible students must have all of the following prerequisites:
  • Be of African-American descent
  • Already accepted to an accredited four-year college or university
  • Possess leadership potential and discernible good character
  • GPA minimum of 3.0
If a student meets all of the above criteria, applicants should submit the following information:
  1. A completed application.
  2. A personal statement which includes community service activities and a summary as to why you believe you should be awarded the Beauty P. Baldwin Scholarship. It should also include how you think the scholarship can help you to pursue your career ambitions. This should be atleast one page, typed, and double-spaced.
  3. A sealed copy of your transcripts.
  4. Two sealed letters of recommendations from any combination of teachers, employers, school administrators, counselors, or ministers.
Complete applications must be submitted by no later than April 5, 2013. No exceptions!
Applicants will be contacted by the scholarship committee on May 6- 10, in order to interviewed. Students selected for scholarships will be notified by mail and honored at a banquet sponsored by Upsilon Alpha Omega. Applicants that were not selected will, also, be notified by mail.
