12th Annual Legacy Student Scholarships

Given in honor of past and present Board members and employess who have served Peach State for 20 years or more. These nine $2,500 scholarships will be awarded in May to high school seniors who will be attending college to pursue a degree in education and plan to return to Georgia to teach.

In order for students to be considered, completed applications and supporting documentation mest be received by Peach State no later than March 21, 2014.

Metro Atlanta Relocation Council 2014 Scholarship

A one-time award of $1,500 will be presented to an Atlanta area high school senior this year (Residence eligibility is defined as a senior attending a provate or public school in any city or county district within Cobb, Fulton, Dekalb, or Gwinnett Counties as well as any county immediately bordering these counties).

The award will be sent directly to the college that the student will be attending to assist with tuition, etc.

The MARC organization will select the scholarship winner based on the strength of their total application.
The student will be evaluated based on the following:
  1. Academic performance,
  2. Extra-curricular activites, and
  3. The student's essay addressing the challenges associated with relocating to a new area and a new high school (please see greater details regarding the essay requirements below).
Requirements

Applicants must meet these requirements:
  • Currently a senior in good standing in an Atlanta area high school.
  • Has relocated more than 50 miles and changed schools due to their family's relocation between grades 9 and 12
  • Currently have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 (or equivalent if different scale)
Please submit the following information, along with your completed application, sighned by your Guidance Department:
  1. Please list (on a separate sheet) all your extra-curricular activites & work experience during high school.
  2. Please write an essay telling us about your experiences associated with your relocation into the Atlanta area. Please feel free to discuss:
    • your family background,
    • reasons for the relocation,
    • the challenges encountered with the relocation,
    • the successes you achieved.
    • importantly, please feel free to include and advice that you would give to another teenager preparing to relocate (as you did)!
    • The essay should be between 1,000 to 1,500 words and must be e-mailed in a Word document format.
Applications must be received by 5:00p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 to have time for evaluation and selection. The scholarship will be awarded at the MARC Spring Meeting, now scheduled for the morning of Thursday, April 17th, where the winner and their parent(s) are cordially invited to attend.\

Delta Kappa Gamma Society International of Women Educators

One Scholarship of $1,500 to one high school student who plans to pursue a degree in education.
Has to be a senior in high school interested in entering a teaching profession.

  • Applicants must provide high school transcript, SAT score, class rank, and grade point average.
  • Applicants must submit an essay on why they desire to go into teaching. The essay should be limited to 2 pages double-spaces.
  • One letter of recommendation must accompany the application when it is submitted.  The letter should be from someone who knows the applicant well (i.e. teacher, religious leader, employer).
  • Honors and awards, extracurricular activities, and church/community service will be a consideration.
  • If possible a photograph should be attached.  This is NOT Required.  The photograph will be returned if a stamped, self-addressed envelope is included in the application package.
 
Selection Process
  • Applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee of the Beta Rho Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society
  • Students Will be notified of the committee's decision as soon as a recipient is selected.
