Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Programs

Students are invited to apply for the 2014 Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Programs. The sholarship programs provide financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarship criteria also include high school graduation in spring/summer of 2014, commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree, and United States citizenship. The scholarships are given to deserving students each year and range in award value from $5,000 to $20,000.

Important: In order for an application to be considered complete the applicant's counselor must complete a certifications form online. Note: Counselors will have access to a full listing of students who have started an application once they log-in to the Certification Form page online. However, yhe Certification Form will not be accessible until the Academic Information section is completed by the applicant. 2014 Horatio Alger Scholarship Application Information

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

To be considered eligible for Horatio Alger National and State Scholarship Programs, applicants must:

• Be enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the United States, progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2014 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation
• Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
• Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
• Be involved in co-curricular and community service activites
• Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
• maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0
• Be a United States citizen                                                                                            

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

To apply for the Horatio Alger Sholarship Programs, the following itmes must be completed by October 25, 2013:

• An online appication at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships
• One Support Form completed online. This must be completed by an adult over the age of 21 who is not related to the applicant and who is aware of the adversities mentioned in the application. This form must be filled out online. Faxes, emails, or letters will not be accepted.
• Online Certification Form. Counselors will have access to a fukll listing of students who have started an application once they log-in to the Certification Form page online. However, the Certification Form will not be accessible until the Academic Information section is completed by the applicant. A login will be emailed to the applicant's counselor once the Academic Information section is complete. (Please notify your counselor that they will receive an email from the Association providing instructions for how to complete the certifications form outline).
• Official high school transcript. Applicants have the option to either upload a transcript through the application, send it via mail, or the applicant's counselor may upload a transcript to the Certification Form.
• Income Verification. A copy of the first two pages of the applicant's parent/guardian's federal tax return (1040, 1040A, 1040EZ or 1099 SSA-Social Security form) or tax transcript (request a tax transcript here www.irs.gov/Individuals/Order-a-Transcript) for 2012 is needed on order to verify income stated on the application. If an applicant's parents/guardians were not required to file a tax return, include statement copies of any government benefits, such as Public Assistance or Disability payment documents. Foster care or independent students need to have their counselor verify this status by completing an additional section in the Certification Form. Income verificstions may be uploaded online or sent by mail. No emails or faxes accepted. If sent by mail: A cover sheet must be submitted with the income verification information (available online).

The Bryan Scholarship

The Lowell Bryan Scholarship program awards, each valued at $30,000 annually, are offered to two scholar-athletes (one woman and one man) in each entering class.

Candidates are chosen on the basis of:

• academic and personal excellence,
• strong promise of significant impact in their classes and in their lives on campus,
• proven potential for significant success in Davidson's NCAA Division 1 athletic program.

We will nominate up to three candidates for the Bryan Scholarship. The nomination deadline is September 20. Students may also be nominated by Davidson coaches of the 18 eligible sports (men's and women's basketball and football are not eligible). Nominees' admission applications must be completed and received in our office no later than 5:00 p.m., October 15, 2013.

Finalists will participate in selection interviews on campus on November 2-3, 2013.

Tuition Incentive Program
WKU offers a Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) To qualified students who are residents of specific counties in Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Florida, Georgia, and Indiana. Students who live in the following counties of Georgia(Tier 2): Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett will receive the TIP tuition rate only.

Financial Benefits For Undergraduates
Tuition will be assessed at approximately 1.27 times the corresponding full-time resident rate for undergraduate students attending the main campus. TIP can be a variety of amounts for part-time undergraduate students, depending on the number of hours taken. You may contact the Billings and Receivables Office at (270) 745-6381 for an hourly breakdown.

Visiting Student Qualifications
Transient students will be required to have the visiting student form on file to qualify for the program.

Procedures
There is no application for the Tuition Incentive Program. Eligibility for all undergraduates is determined by the Office of Admissions.

Tuition Incentive Program Scholarships (TIPS)
Students with superior achievement will receive a "Tuition Incentive Program Scholarship"(TIPS) to pay the difference between the tuition rate for resident, undergraduate students attending the main campus and the Tuition Incentive Program.

1. The scholarship will automatically be awarded to beginning freshmen with a unweighted cumulative grade point average of a 3.5 AND a 25 composite ACT score or a 1130 SAT total.
2. Transfer students from an accredited college or university must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale with at least 24 semester hours earned.
3. Students enrolled with a "Tuition Incentive Program Scholarship" may qualify for each subsequent academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
4. Students not receiving a "Tuition Incentive Program Scholarship" as a new student cannot receive the scholarship at a later date.
5. If the "Tuition Incentive Program Scholarship" is cancelled because a 3.0 GPA is not maintained, it will not be re-instated later.
6. Students falling into Tier 2 auotmatically receive the Tuition Incentive Program rate, however, they are not eligible for the Tuition Incentive Program Scholarship.
7. The Tuition Incentive Program cannot be administered to Distance Learning courses. 

Please note that the Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) and the Tuition Incentive Program Scholarship (TIPS) are different. TIP is a tuition rate based on cpunty of residence; TIPS is a scholarship based on academic qualifications.

GPC Educational Achievement Program (GEAP) scholars program

Minimum criteria for participation

First-time Students Must:



• Possess a minimum high school GPA of 2.6 or a technical/career diploma with a 2.8 cumulative GPA (4.0 scale)
• Be admitted and enrolled as a full-time student (12 or more semester credit hours) at GPC
• Have plans to continue their college careers at one of the GPC-TAG partnering institutions
• Demonstrate financial need

Currently Enrolled Students Must:

• Possess a minimum GPA of 2.6
• Have full-time student status
• Have plans to continue their college careers at one of the GPC-TAG partnering institutions
• Demostrate financial need

What is expected of a GPC GEAP Scholar?

• GEAP Scholars must have every intention of attending, graduating from and earning a baccalaureate degree from one of the member TAG institutions.
• GEAP Scholars are required to attend all assigned workshops, advisement sessions, community service activites and field trips and actively participate in the GPC Latino Connections student organization.
• Scholars must maintain full-time student status at GPC.
• Scholars must maintain a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.6 and a minimum semester GPA of 2.6.

The academic record of all GEAP Scholars will be reviewed semi-annually. The level of support will be determined largely by progress toward your degree.

GPC GEAP program components

• Scholarship/Financial Support: All GEAP Scholarships are need-based, and awards can range between $500 and $1,500 per year. Recipients will receive notification from GPC's Institutional Advancement office within the semester that they have applied. Scholarship awards will be posted to the student's account during the semester following the application deadline. It is important that students submit accurate information. 
• Academic Support and Personal Enrichment: GEAP Scholars will have the opportunity to take advantage of various academic enrichment experiences, such as tutoring, frequent academic advising, personal counseling and career advising.
• Peer, Faculty and Professional Mentoring: In addition to peer and faculty mentoring, GEAP Scholars also will have the opportunity to be assigned to professional mentors in their intended career fields.
• Civic Engagement and Outreach Initiatives: GEAP Scholars are expected to complete a required number of individual community service hours during the academic year. GEAP Scholars also will complete service projects as a group.
