12th Annual Legacy Student Scholarships

Given in honor of past and present Board members and employess who have served Peach State for 20 years or more. These nine $2,500 scholarships will be awarded in May to high school seniors who will be attending college to pursue a degree in education and plan to return to Georgia to teach.

In order for students to be considered, completed applications and supporting documentation mest be received by Peach State no later than March 21, 2014.

Metro Atlanta Relocation Council 2014 Scholarship

A one-time award of $1,500 will be presented to an Atlanta area high school senior this year (Residence eligibility is defined as a senior attending a provate or public school in any city or county district within Cobb, Fulton, Dekalb, or Gwinnett Counties as well as any county immediately bordering these counties).

The award will be sent directly to the college that the student will be attending to assist with tuition, etc.

The MARC organization will select the scholarship winner based on the strength of their total application.
The student will be evaluated based on the following:

1. Academic performance,
2. Extra-curricular activites, and
3. The student's essay addressing the challenges associated with relocating to a new area and a new high school (please see greater details regarding the essay requirements below).

Requirements

Applicants must meet these requirements:

• Currently a senior in good standing in an Atlanta area high school.
• Has relocated more than 50 miles and changed schools due to their family's relocation between grades 9 and 12
• Currently have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 (or equivalent if different scale)

Please submit the following information, along with your completed application, sighned by your Guidance Department:

1. Please list (on a separate sheet) all your extra-curricular activites & work experience during high school.
2. Please write an essay telling us about your experiences associated with your relocation into the Atlanta area. Please feel free to discuss:
• your family background,
• reasons for the relocation,
• the challenges encountered with the relocation,
• the successes you achieved.
• importantly, please feel free to include and advice that you would give to another teenager preparing to relocate (as you did)!
• The essay should be between 1,000 to 1,500 words and must be e-mailed in a Word document format.

Applications must be received by 5:00p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 to have time for evaluation and selection. The scholarship will be awarded at the MARC Spring Meeting, now scheduled for the morning of Thursday, April 17th, where the winner and their parent(s) are cordially invited to attend.\

Georgia United Credit Union's 2014 Scholarship Programs

Named for the founder of the Credit Union, the Vernon E. Carne scholarship focuses on a short essay of 250 words or less. This year's topic is "Explain how the credit union philosophy of 'people helping people' helps consumers during these difficult economic times, while providing an alternative to large commercial banks." In addition, students should complete a Georgia United scholarship form and include a copy of their high school transcript and a letter of acceptance from the college or technical school they will attend. Students (or their parents) must be members of Georgia United, and are encouraged to include information regarding financial need, scholastic standing, special achievements, and leadership.

Georgia United also offers two Catholic Scholarships,  in memory of Archbishop Emeritus John F. Donoghue.

The $2,500 Archbishop Emeritus John Francis Donoghue Scholarship award will be distributed as follows:

Armstrong Atlantic State University

Armstrong Atlantic State University is looking for high school seniors who are interested in pursuing a career in science or mathematics at our institution.
The College of Science and Technology (CST) at Armstrong was awarded a $1,000,000 grant from the NAtional Science Foundation Science Talent Expansion Program (NSF-STEP) in 2009 to provide summer research fellowships for incoming freshmen students. These STEP scholars conduct 6 weeks of research in the summer before their first year at Armstrong.
Students selected as STEP scholars would be required to live on campus for 6 weeks from June 16-July 25, 2014 free of charge (5 meals per week are included) and will be paid a stipend of $300 each week. STEP scholars will attend an intensive mathematics program (no course credit) that will help to prepare them for college-level mathematics.

To be considered for the STEP program, applicants are required to have a minimum  of 500 on the math portion of the SAT and must submit an online application through the STEP website and a recommendation letter from a high school science or mathematics teacher. Phone or in-person interviewa will be conducted by STEP faculty. Students who are selected as STEP scholars must commit to attend Armstrong in the Fall and must declare a major within the College of Science and Technology. Complete applications must be submitted by May 2nd, 2014; however, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis during the Spring semester, so earlier submissions are encouraged.

All African American senior young women and men who attend a high school in Gwinnett County, except Centerville, Snellville and Loganville are eligible to apply.

2014 High School Video Contest

FOG Clogs!  Submission Deadline February 28, 2014.

Eligibility
9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students that attend schools located in Bartow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dekalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale counties are invited to participate in the video contest. Entries can be a team or individual effort.

Guidelines

• Each video must be uploaded to YouTube. The video's YouTube link must be included in the entry/release form.
• Teams must be from the same school.
• The video must be between 30-60 seconds in length.
• No professional assistance or use of copyright material is allowed, including background music.
• Each student participating in the contest or appearing in the video must fill out a form. For teams, submit an entry/release form for each team member.
• One video per team or individual.
• All entry/release forms must be postmarked or received by Friday, February 28, 2014.

Judging
Submissions will be judged based on the following criteria:

Kids Who Care Award

The Kids Who Care Award is given to five outstanding students in grades 9-12 who have an exceptional commitment to volunteerism. The winners receive a $1,100 scholarship and are recognized on 11Alive. The deadline for submission is February 15, 2014.

SCAD Distinguished Scholars Award

The SCAD Distinguished Scholars Award is a prestigious scholarship in the amount of US$20,000 per year. To be considered, students must be recommended by a teacher, professor or school counselor. This scholarship is applicable toward tuition to attend SCAd in Atlanta, Hong Kong, Savannah or online via eLearning, and may be renewed annually, provided the recipient is enrolled and maintains a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.

Teacher/counselor nominations and students' completed application files (including transcript, official test scores and portfolio) must be received by Feb. 15, 2014. Students must meet or exceed the following:

• Minimum 1220 SAT combined math and critical reading score, or ACT composite score of at least 27
• GPA of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale
• Outstanding visual arts, performing arts, writing or riding capabilities
• Honors and awards from competitions, or other recognition
• Leadership skills demonstrated through co-curricular or extracurricular involvement
